Covering the Tooth

WHAT IS A DENTAL VENEER?

There are several types of veneers with direct or indirect production.

THE COMPOSITE VENEER

Composite veneers or composite resins are most often used to solve minor cosmetic problems such as cracked teeth.

They can arise in two ways. A veneer is said to be direct when it is made directly by the aesthetic dental surgeon. In one session, he builds the veneers that will restore your smile directly in your mouth. On entend par indirecte une fabrication qui se déroule dans un laboratoire.

Ceramic veneers, as well as some composite veneers, are custom-made by a master dental technician. In other words, the cosmetic dentist first makes a mold of your teeth and then applies veneers specially designed for your mouth and the smile you want to achieve, in terms of shape, size and tooth shade. The major disadvantage is the shade instability and early yellowing of composite veneers.

THE CERAMIC VENEER

Ceramic dental veneers are small shells placed on the outside of teeth to correct their size, shape or color. They offer a natural result and are particularly popular for correcting the appearance of visible teeth (incisors, canines).

Ceramic veneers are custom-made by a dental technician and bonded to the tooth surface using dental adhesive. It is often necessary to trim the teeth and remove some of the enamel covering them to improve veneer adhesion and maximize their lifespan.

EMAX VENEERS

Manufactured by our master dental technician, EMAX veneers are made-to-measure. They are extremely strong, resistant and aesthetically pleasing. This material delivers natural-looking results in terms of color and transparency.

They allow changing the shade, shape, and alignment of the smile to have beautiful white teeth and a bright and long-lasting smile.

PELLICULAR VENEERS

As their name suggests, pellicular veneers are extremely thin: their thickness is generally between 0.2 and 0.3 mm. Because they are so thin, these veneers are very delicate to apply. Depending on the condition or color of your teeth, you'll need to thicken them to mask discoloration, or modify the shape or position of your teeth. Good dental and gum health are essential. Any gingivitis, loosening or periodontal disease must be treated beforehand.

Dental veneers have an aesthetic function, but they cannot be applied in all cases.

VENEERS CANNOT BE PLACED IN THE FOLLOWING SITUATIONS:

  • a devitalized tooth,
  • excessive malposition (in this case, this requires to resort to a prior orthodontic work or considering the placement of crowns),
  • a tooth in a very poor condition or a decayed tooth (decay must be treated beforehand),
  • when the patient suffers from periodontal disease (gingivitis, periodontitis, etc.),
  • a tooth with an insufficient or too thin enamel,
  • a patient with bad occlusion of the jaw.

The application of dental veneers is completely painless, but is performed under local anaesthetic for greater comfort.

CROWN LIFE AND MAINTENANCE

The lifespan of a veneer ranges from 10 to 20 years, with the 10-year difference depending solely on the individual. The better you maintain them, the longer they'll last. That's why it's so important to maintain impeccable oral hygiene. After your veneers have been fitted, we recommend that you visit your dentist 2 times a year for regular check-ups and scaling.

THE STAY
